I am a foodie and a true lover of food. I do like to eat healthy though and I recently got to sample the latest and greatest foods that range from gluten-free to dairy-free to vegan… at the largest natural trade show in the world called Natural Products Expo in Anaheim, CA.
Now that I am officially gluten-fee (it’s been 6 weeks) and soon to be dairy-free, I am on the lookout for delicious foods that are gluten-free and dairy-free. The choices and quality we can found now are amazing. My sister was diagnosed with Celiac Disease about 20 years ago. Trust me when I tell you that a gluten-free cookie back then was not only hard to find but was so disgusting, you’d rather skip the cookie altogether!
Here are some of my favorites:
Daiya Pizzas – These pizzas blew my mind. I had a hard time walking away from the booth even though there were mobs of people frantically sampling the pizzas. I tried the margarita, mushroom, vegetable, and cheese pizzas. The mushroom was my favorite but they were all truly delicious. You wouldn’t even know that they are gluten-free and dairy free. Daiya products are free of dairy (casein, whey and lactose), soy, gluten, eggs, peanuts and tree nuts (except coconut) and are 100% vegan.
Rudi’s Gluten-Free Tortillas – Who doesn’t like a quesadilla or wrap? These gluten-free tortillas are delicious, made with whole grain flours and come in plain, spinach, and fiesta which has red bell pepper, jalapeno, onion and garlic flavors. I’m delighted to have found these since I avoid corn as much as I can since most corn is GMO.
RW Garcia Dippers – 3 Seed English Cheddar Dipping Chips – These are gluten-free and delicious on their own. I got a bag as a sample with the intention of taking it home to try with a dip but the bag never made it home. So much for self-control! These are crunchy and delicious. A must for any party or just as a yummy snack!
Mr. Dewie’s Almond Milk Frozen Dessert – who needs traditional ice cream when you can have Mr. Dewie’s?! Mr. Dewie’s Frozen Dessert is a dairy-free, gluten-free and soy-free “ice cream” alternative, made from almond milk. With flavors ranging from Mint Chip to Salted Pecan to Banana Walnut, you can easily go nuts for these smooth and delicious frozen desserts made from organic ingredients. I cannot wait for them to be available in LA. I don’t have much of a sweet tooth so love this not-so-sweet dessert.
Wow Baking Company – I walked up to this booth to sample their cookies and brownies. After taking my first bite, the first word out of my mouth was “WOW!” I looked up to see that the brand is called Wow Baking Company which is truly the perfect name. You would never know these tasty desserts are gluten-free and wheat-free. I absolutely loved the plain old chocolate chip!
I will continue to share the wonderful gluten-free and dairy-free foods that I find along the way. We are truly blessed by the options and wonderful flavors of all the gluten-free and dairy-free foods out there. It just keeps getting better and better. Bon appetit!
