Essential oils have always interested me. They not only wonderful aromas but they always manage to improve my overall sense of wellbeing. Until last year, I was very naive to the healing benefits of essential oils. I started researching different oils and their benefits and was truly amazed by what I read and what I experienced. Over the past three years, I have used various essential oils at the onset of a sore throat to prevent getting sick, to get rid of cramps and headaches, to relax…with astounding success.
What are essential oils? A natural yet volatile oil distilled from various parts of the plant including leaves, stems, roots, flowers, and fruit. They consist of hundreds of chemical compounds and are highly concentrated. With essential oils, a little goes a long way!
Essential oils come in single formulas and blends. For example, people have used lavender oil to help with acne, allergies, scars, stretch marks, insect bites, headaches, anxiety, depression, and stress.
People have been using essential oils for medicinal purposes for thousands of years. They have recently grown in popularity due to the numerous studies that reveal that most viruses, fungi, or bacteria cannot live in the presence of many essential oils.
Used in massage, acupuncture, reflexology, and everyday households, essential oils are so powerful they act on both the mind and body. They can stimulate the immune system, fight off diseases by killing viruses and bacteria, and relieve pain… They can also help with anger, anxiety, fear, jealousy, concentration, forgetfulness, and resentment just to name a few.
According to Dr. Daniel Penoel, an MD, educator, and author who has dedicated 30 years to the therapeutic use of essential oils: “Since essential oils are carriers of life force, builders of vigor and strength, and generators of calm and joy, they contribute powerfully to achieving and maintaining authentic and profound global health.”
When do I use essential oils? All the time! There are so many wonderful properties and uses for essential oils that you can have a blast discovering all the different ways you and your family can benefit from them. You can also have you massage therapist use your favorite body oil / massage oil.
