With so much talk about artificial sweeteners and their negative impact on our health, you might have heard about aspartame. In case you are not familiar with it, aspartame is an artificial sweetener that was first sold under the brand name NutraSweet. Aspartame is currently used in a variety of soft drinks and other foods. Today, I’d like to share with you the risks of aspartame and the health benefits of xylitol. I also want to share with you Pur Gum, a fairly new aspartame-free gum that has taken the world by storm and has quickly become a favorite among health-conscious individuals.
What is Aspartame
Aspartame is a man-made dangerous synthetic sweetener that is approximately 200 times sweeter than sucrose aka table sugar. It is commonly used in candy, beverages, and gum and has been linked to 92 health problems including cancer.
The Dangers of Aspartame
While aspartame is very low in calories (4 calories per gram), it comes with negative side effects like headaches/migraines, nausea, depression, joint pain, weight gain, seizures, vertigo, vision problems, memory loss, heart palpitations, anxiety attacks, fatigue…among others.
Even the FDA has linked ninety two symptoms to aspartame poisoning. Based on this report by the FDA, chronic aspartame ingestion can trigger or worsen certain chronic illnesses like:
- Brain tumors
- Multiple sclerosis
- Epilepsy
- Chronic fatigue syndrome
- Parkinson’s Disease
- Alzheimer’s
- Mental retardation
- Lymphoma
- Birth defects
- Fibromyalgia
- Diabetes
- Arthritis (including Rheumatoid)
- Chemical Sensitivities
- Attention Deficit Disorder
The good news is that you can easily avoid aspartame. Start reading labels and stop drinking diet soda, chewing gum with aspartame…Aspartame is marketed under brand names like NutraSweet, Equal, and Sugar Twin. Now on to a great sweetener, Xylitol.
What is Xylitol
Xylitol is an all-natural sweetener found in many fruits and vegetables. It looks like sugar, has the same sweetness as sugar, and even tastes like sugar. That is why it’s become the ideal natural sugar replacement. When a recipe calls for sugar, substitute it with xylitol 1:1. So, if you need 1/2 cup of sugar, use 1/2 cup of xylitol instead.
The Health Benefits of Xylitol
Xylitol naturally stabilizes insulin, which means that it does not cause a spike in blood sugar. Instead, it helps reduce sugar and carbohydrate craving making it safe for diabetics and those suffering from Celiac disease.
Xylitol is good for your teeth, stabilizes insulin and hormone levels, promotes good health and has none of the negative side effects of white sugar or artificial sweeteners. That is why I love aspartame-free gum that is sweetened with Xylitol like Pur Gum.
Why Choosing a Gum with Xylitol Would Make your Dentist Proud!
If you’re going to chew gum, pick one that is aspartame-free and sweetened with Xylitol. Xylitol reverses the destructive effects sugar has on our oral health. Xylitol, the dental superhero, helps restore proper alkaline/acid balance in our mouths as well as inhibit plaque formation and prevent tooth decay by 80 per cent.
So if you like to chew gum, try Pur Gum, the aspartame-free and sugar-free gum that won’t burst your bubble. Pur Gum has no chemicals, no aftertaste, no aspartame or other artificial sweeteners. Pur Gum is vegan, gluten-free, non-gmo, nut-free, diabetic friendly and dairy free. It is sweetened with xylitol, a natural sweetener derived from corn fibers grown in Europe.
Whether you are familiar with Pur Gum or not, Pur Gum comes in four mouthwatering flavors: Wintergreen, Spearmint, Peppermint and Pomegranate Mint. Pick either from a 9-piece blister pack or a 55-piece pouch. You can now enjoy any or all these flavors at 25% off from XLvita.com through Monday 2/10. It is not the first time I am reading about the dangers of aspartame, so I am trying to stay away from it. I prefer Stevia and use it 95% of time.
I am glad to hear that Ted! Stevia is great and a much healthier sweetener. Keep up the good work!
