Detoxing and cleansing are a critical part of our overall health. The reason is that we are inundated with toxins from the air we breathe, the water we drink and bathe in, the products we use, the environments we live and work in…
Our natural detox system just can’t keep up so that’s why it is critical to detox our bodies on a regular basis. Just think about your car and how it needs an oil change. Our bodies are no different and need a good cleansing on a regular basis to function more efficiently. What better way to do that than with a juice cleanse.
As I search and experiment with different programs, I thought I would try a 7-day juice cleanse. The idea of not eating for seven days sounded horrible to me, especially with me being such a foodie. But after I saw the documentary Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead, I was determined to do a juice fast so I started one yesterday.
7-Day Alkalize & Energize Colon & Juice Cleanse
The concept behind this juice cleanse program is to alkalize and energize your body. You drink a ton of water with lemon throughout the day, juice green vegetables three times a day, and drink a powdered green drink two to three times a day. I feel like all I do is drink but in just one day my belly is flat and I’m feeling even better than usual.
I tested my pH first thing in the morning yesterday and it was 5.5, which is too acidic. Well, aside from wanting to drop a few pounds, I am doing this detox program to alkalize my body. Science has shown that disease cannot live in an alkaline environment. So if we want optimal health, we really need to stop eating acidifying foods and start eating alkalizing foods. That is one of the reasons why this juice cleanse is all about juicing vegetables and no fruit or sugar.
My First 24 Hours on the Juice Cleanse
I have to admit yesterday was the hardest detox day I have ever had. I think part of my problem was that on Sunday night, I went to a concert and ate a lot earlier than usual. By the time I got home, I was hungry so I started the detox yesterday already unusually hungry. I think that made the day harder than it needed to be. I had headaches on and off in the afternoon but slept like a baby. Otherwise, I felt fine.
Today, I am a happy camper. I woke up full of energy and ready for a busy and productive day. I lost 2.8 lbs which seems crazy to me but I was told that with this detox, people lose anywhere from 1-5 lbs a day. I actually weighed myself three times to make sure I wasn’t seeing things. I did not expect to loose almost 3 lbs in one day especially when I am not heavy to begin with. We will see what happens in the course of the week.
I am doing this juice cleanse with my friend Carrie which is a key component for me. Accountability is huge and can help you get through anything. Carrie and I have been talking throughout the day, sharing juice recipes, and supporting each other along the way. If you want to do a detox program, I highly recommend having your partner or a friend do it with you. It will ensure your success and make it a lot more fun.
I am excited for whatever the week has in store for me. This is also a testament to be careful with what you tell yourself. I didn’t think I’d be able to “eat” with my husband but so far so good. It’s been really easy so far and the first couple of days are supposed to be the hardest. I look forward to feeding my body and mind with healthy things and will report back at the end of the week when I finish the juice cleanse.

Congratulations on the program!
Thanks Gary! I’m looking forward to the experience. 🙂
Hi…. How did you end up after the seven days?
Hi Deborah, I felt great after seven days. I plan on doing a ten day juice cleanse this year after I try a few other cleanses.
